Description:  Standing proud among other locomotives, NKP 759 can hold its own. With the Union Pacific tender in the background, it makes me think this might have been at the original Steamtown USA at Bellows Falls, VT. Description:  Stored 1/58 at Conneaut.and subsequently shopped there. Stored after shopping and sold to F/ Nelson Blount (Monadnock, Steamtown & Northern) on 10/16/62.In May 1958, the NKP thoroughly overhauled 759 in the company's great shop at Conneaut, OH. It was the last steam locomotive to be overhauled by NKP. F. Nelson Blount bdded 759 to his collection at Steamtown USA in Bellows Falls, VT in October, 1962. The 759 was steamed up on 8/17/68 and made several trial runs. On May 3, 1969, painted black with yellow lettering and white driver tires, 759 led Rosr Rowland's "Gold\n Spike Limited" from Grand Central Station to Promontory, Utah for the "Driving of the Golden Spike Ceremony".

Description:  This beautiful profile of the Lima 2-8-4 Berkshire was caught while the locomotive headed up the "Golden Spike Limited" on its return trip back to Steamtown after visiting Promontory, Utah for the "Driving of the Golden Spike Ceremony" in 1969. After faithfully serving the Nickel Plate Road, the locomotive was mercifully sold for scrap to F. Nelson Blount on October 16, 1962 who preserved it at Steamtown National Historic Site now in Scranton, PA. No photographer was listed for this fine photo.

High Iron Co.'s "New York State Express"
Title:  High Iron Co.'s "New York State Express"
Description:  Nickel Plate Road Lima S2 Berkshire #759 heads up the Erie Lackwanna Bergen County Line, on a Memorial Day Weekend "New York State Express" to Binghamton, NY (run by Ross Rowland Jr's High Iron Company). 2-8-4 #759 was one of 80 NKP Berkshires. It, was delivered 08/44. At the helm of 759 was Al Collins. The EL Office Car behind the HICO crew car was #2 which ran platform first in both directions carrying EL Hoboken GM Bob Downing. He nearly always took his EL business car to Binghamton with 759 when it made the "circle trip"--up the Erie and back the Lackawanna. The young photographer on the bottom left is RR Pic Archives contributor Charles Freericks, taking his first ever train picture.
